Founded in 1990, TEC Portugal succeeds the company António Germino, Lda, specialized in the manufacture of naval aprons, fishing boats and lifting accessories since 1925. At the beginning of the century, technology had some mechanical component in the products but still relied on a lot of manual labor.

With the need that international trade felt to reduce transit times between origin (factory) and destination (consumer), the container emerged as a means of transport – a metal box of standard dimensions – which allowed to optimize empty spaces in the hold and deck of the ship and reduce transit times between origin and destination.
